EMS has decided that 2011 is "Hardware year" and started the programme with the much acclaimed workshop led by hardware guru Nicolas Collins. Keeping this theme in mind, we are happy to be launching a monthly DIY get together!

De allvetande hundarna

a work combining choreography (Björn Elisson), electroacoustic music (Lars Åkerlund) and poetry (Johanna Ekström) as well as film footage by Bengt Wanselius and Stig-Åke Nilsson. The work is part of a trilogy about human beings undergoing change.

Tonight, 17 January 2011, you can follow Art's Birthday in Europe as all the EBU countries will be broadcasting live on Sveriges Radio P2: commentators in the Stockholm studio will be Mats Lindström (composer and director of EMS) and Ida Lundén (composer).

The workshop is full now, but we can put you on a waiting-list just in case!

Nicolas Collins (author of Handmade Electronic Music --- The Art of Hardware Hacking) is coming to Stockholm to run a three day workshop on 23 (13.00-18.00), 24 (14.00-18.00) and 25 January (14.00-18.00) at EMS and Fylkingen. We will allow a maximum of 20 participants in this workshop and the fee is 800 SEK including VAT (moms) and a material kit. At last it's time for Art's Birthday 2011. This year it's 15 JANUARY at Södra Teatern. It starts at 19.00 and you'd better be there early because there will be a lot of people wanting to go in. Free entry. The whole event is broadcast on Sveriges Radio P2.

Brian Williams, a.k.a. Lustmord will be coming to Stockholm to play at the Art's Birthday Party 2011 on 15 January 2011 at Södra Teatern. Many of you know him as a legendary composer of Dark Ambient and also sound designer for films like The Crow, Insider, From Dusk till Dawn… We are happy to tell you that he has agreed to hold a seminar about his work at AUDIORAMA (Slupskjulsvägen 30, Skeppsholmen) on Friday 14 January at 17.00-19.00. Sanne Krogh Groth was awarded the Ingmar Bengtsson prize on 29 November 2010, at a ceremony at Kungliga Musikaliska Akademien for "To musikkulturer – én institution. Forskningsstrategier og text-ljudkompositioner ved det svenske elektronmusikstudie EMS i 1960'erne of 1970'erne"(Det Humanistiske Fakultet, Københavns Universitet). An analysis of the two music cultures that prevailed at EMS in the 60s and 70s. Åsa Bergman was joint prize-winner.

Moderna museet Stockholm

EMS will for the first time ever take the legendary Buchla modular system out of the studio to show it at Tekniska museet on Sunday the 6:th of November from 12 to 16.

Tekniska museet is closing its space exhibition "A space adventure" and celebrates this with a special event that is all about analog modular synthesizers and their sounds in a fitting environment.
Bring your friends and family to experience a Sunday full of futuristic visions of the sixties!
