Samuel De Souza-Meally (Birmingham,1988) is an artist based in Berlin, Germany.
Samuel De Souza-Meally positions himself as an arbiter within his works, regardless of their media or format. Engaging with his sound-based compositions, manipulated film material and live installations, we are made intensely aware of the porous division between the living and the inanimate. The technologies he utilizes feel sensate, prone to swerve or breaking pattern, and gesture to the mechanized qualities of human consciousness. Thus, rather than an author, we can see De Souza-Meally an interpreter. His practice opens a channel, allowing us to converse with technology in a fluency that is provisional as always, but unmistakably present.
