On March 16th March, a big exhibition on ”Sound Art. Sound as a Medium of Art” opens at ZKM in Karlsruhe.
One room designed by the Danish artist Hans Sydow will be staged as a tribute to Sten Hanson and his legendary piece ”How are you?”, one room selected and designed by Sanne Krogh Groth and Mats Lindström will be an EMS documentation space dedicated to the history of EMS.
The room will expose the visual aesthetics of the early EMS studios and presents some of the research, technology and music executed and produced there.
Krogh Groth writes: "It must have been hard not to be impressed when visiting the EMS studio from the late sixties when the computer studio was built. The quadraphonic sound system, the tight modernistic design with PH-lamps and Eames chair, and the flashing buttons on the console all looked like something out of a science fiction movie. With the spirit of the times taken into account, there is no doubt that these little performances together with pictures taken of EMS, were responsible for giving EMS its reputation as being one of the worlds most advanced studios."
EMS documentation space aims to re-create the atmosphere of the heyday of computer music. The exhibition will run until January 2013.
