Viola Yip is a Berlin-based composer, performer, sound artist and instrument builder. She has been interested in creating new self-built musical instruments and sound performances that explores the performative relationships between media, materiality, space and our musical bodies
in experimental music.

Her instruments and performances have been presented
in music festivals and venues such as Issue Project Room NYC, Look and Listen festival, CCRMA at Stanford University, CNMAT at UC Berkeley, Constellation Chicago, The Arts Club of Chicago, Cycling ‘74 Expo, Hong Kong
Arts Center, Sonic Arts Research Center at Queen's University Belfast, University of Huddersfield,
QO-2 Brussels, Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Moers Festival, Akademie der Künste Berlin, A L’arme! Festival Berlin, Festival für Immaterielle Kunst Hamburg and Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.

She received an Honorary Mention from Giga-Hertz-Preis 2021 at the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe.
