Marja Ahti (b. 1981, Luleå) is a Swedish-Finnish sound artist working in composition, installation and cross-disciplinary performance. Working with field recordings, feedback, analog synthesis, digital processing and acoustic instrumentation she investigates the borderland where sounds mirror each other and communicate.
In December she is back at EMS to rehearse and record a new work in collaboration with local musicians.

She creates precise musical narratives with slowly mutating textures of detailed acoustic sound and intuitively tuned sustained tones and shapes, often on the brink of collapse, collision or feedback. Her music unfolds in a poetic realm between the acousmatic and the documentaristic, hovering between abstraction and the deeply familiar.
Ahti is currently based in Turku, Finland, and has been a part of the Finnish experimental music scene for more than ten years in different constellations and as a founding member of the Himera artist/organizer collective.
