Mike Bullock is a composer, intermedia artist, and porcelainist based in Philadelphia. His work encompasses electroacoustic improvisation, video, synthesizer, contrabass and bass guitar. His porcelain plate series “Pioneers of Sound in Art” are currently available at Caramoor in Katonah, NY, in association with the sound art festival In The Garden of Sonic Delights.
Recent activities include two essays for a book about the audiovisual work of Andy Guhl, and video effects processing for “Encounters With Your Inner Trotsky Child” by American filmmaker Jim Finn. Bullock performs across the US and in Europe, collaborating with a huge range of artists including Bertrand Gauguet, Andy Guhl, Mazen Kerbaj, Pauline Oliveros, Bhob Rainey, Steve Roden, Keith Rowe, and Christian Wolff. Bullock’s music has been released by numerous labels including Sedimental, Intransitive, Important, Winds Measure, Sedimental, Grob, 1.8sec, al Maslakh, and Homophoni. He holds a PhD from the Arts Department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and has taught and lectured in the US and Europe on field recording and improvisation. Collaborating with Linda Aubry Bullock they perform together at rise set twilight, make porcelain as Aubry Arts, and co-run the art-edition label Shadowselves.
