Tarek Atoui was born in Lebanon in 1980 and moved to France in 1998, where he studied sound art and electro-acoustic music. In 2008, he was the artistic director of the STEIM Studios in Amsterdam, a sound lab, which is predominantly concerned with the research and development of new experimental musical instruments. Atoui’s sound installations and performances have been displayed within the international art context at the New Museum, New York, US (2009), the 9th and 11th Sharjah Biennial, AE (2009 and 2013), the Maison Rouge, Paris (2010), the Media City Seoul (2010), the Haus der Kunst, Munich, DE (2010), the Performa 11, New York, US (2011), the Documenta 13, Kassel, DE (2012), the Serpentine Gallery, London (2012), and the Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm (2012).
