Aram Abbas

At EMS April 1–18, 2027

A Franco-Syrian musician based in Paris since 2012, after earning a master’s degree from the Beaux-Arts de Paris, he continued his studies at the INA-GRM and then at the Conservatoire de Musique Électroacoustique de Pantin. Alongside his personal musical work, he composes for film, theater and dance, while performing regularly in concert.

His practice centers on research into no-input mixing, a system consisting of a mixing console and effects pedals without an external sound source. He explores the extreme potentials of this closed system, following shifts in feedback loops and sculpting structures and variant motifs made from unstable signals evolving according to their own internal logic.

Aram is interested in the perceptual and physical dimensions of this practice, as well as in writing and extracting melodies and riffs hidden within abstraction, Morphing forms and arranging sounds ranging from massive textures to microscopic details within a wide stereophonic space.

His work has been presented at various cultural venues and festivals, including the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), Les Instants Chavirés (Montreuil), Weld (Stockholm), Kaseme (Basel), Black Forest Institute Festival (Lenzkirch), Réunion Comfort Festival (Cormeray), La Tour Orion (Montreuil), Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, Établissement d’en Face (Brussels), Islamic Arts Biennale (Riyadh), CRAC Alsace (Altkirch), Ballhaus Ost, Richten25 (Berlin) and shredenhams (Bristol).

He has collaborated with choreographers such as Tyra Wigg, filmmakers including Anhar Salem and Antoine Granier, as well as visual artists such as Cécile Serres and Félise de Conflans.
