Tobias Fandel
At EMS November 9–14, 2026

Tobias Fandel, DMus (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), is a composer and visual artist with a creative interest centered on aesthetical implications of digital culture. In his recent projects he engages the friction in-between current and obsolete media technologies, investigating elusive qualities and sensory artifacts across different cultural sensitivities. He lives and works in Harlem, New York.
At EMS he will be working on a project that proposes the interconnection of two AI systems with distinct architectures and functions in order to create a symbiotic performance work. The first system, an audio engine AI based on the RAVE model (Neutone Morpho), will be trained on datasets drawn from EMS’ extensive collection of analog synthesis hardware, supplemented by synthetic computer-generated sounds. The second system, a control AI, will process and filter a continuous stream of live EEG data captured via OpenBCI hardware and Neuropype software.
