Stefanos Skialivas

At EMS September 28–October 3, 2026

Stefanos Skialivas is an artist and music technologist based in Reykjavik, working at the intersection of interface development and performance. With a background in engineering mathematics and music technology, he develops DIY interfaces for interaction with neural audio synthesis, feedback systems, and physical modelling. He is currently collaborating as a research engineer with the Intelligent Instrument Lab and the ACUTE Research Lab at the University of Iceland. His project “Optical Scores” is being funded by the Art and Culture Program of Nordic Culture Point.

The project “Optical Scores” researches the development of a musical instrument and how this shapes performance practice on that instrument. In “Optical Scores,” electromagnetic field inductors are used as musical interfaces to capture the inaudible electromagnetic landscapes of assemblages of obsolete circuit boards and silent speaker coils, making them audible through direct induction and extreme configurations of resonant objects’ modelling algorithms.

This residency is made possible by the kind support of Nordic Culture Point and Intelligent Instruments Lab.
