Seungjae Shin

At EMS 14 July–8 August, 2025

Seungjae Shin is a composer and sound artist. He integrates algorithmic music, sculptural elements, and spatial audio technology to explore the essence of nature and deliver it to audiences in innovative forms. He does not merely use spatial audio as a technical tool but reimagines it as a new source of inspiration within a musical context, aiming to expand its potential.

He surpasses the limitations of conventional multichannel audio formats by utilizing spatial audio as a medium to bridge auditory and visual elements. Through this, he synchronizes sight and sound, seamlessly incorporating them into compositional forms. This approach extends beyond simple technical implementation, opening up new avenues for artistic experimentation and creative expression.

Moreover, he views spatial audio as both an auxiliary tool and a central element in composition, fostering discussions on how this technology can enhance sensory experiences through the fusion of music and art. His works offer immersive soundscapes harmonized with visual elements, manifesting as hybrid forms of exhibitions and performances. Rather than treating spatial audio as a purely systematic approach, he leverages it to push the boundaries of art through harmonious musical interactions.
