Matteo Tomasetti

Matteo Tomasetti (he\him) is an Italian computer music composer, live performer, and researcher who works to create immersive musical experiences where gesture-based interfaces and spatial audio play a predominant component.

His main research and musical practice focus mainly on developing and performing with New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME). Some of his immersive musical and audiovisual works have been performed in venues, festivals, and conferences worldwide, like Ars Electronica, La Biennale di Venezia, International Computer Music Conferences, and many others. He is the co-founder of both the ‘BitNet01’ collective, through which we organize several electronic music and digital art festivals across Italy and Europe, and the ‘Mimesi’ ensemble, an immersive audiovisual performative trio created with visual artist Filippo Gualazzi and contemporary composer/double-bass player Filippo Angeloni.

In 2024, he received a Ph.D. in Music Technology from the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Trento (Italy). Currently, he is a Professor of Electronic Music at the Music Conservatory of Pescara (Italy) and a member of the Creative, Intelligent, and Multisensory Interactions Laboratory (CIMIL) of the University of Trento (Italy). Some of his research concerning spatial audio, NIME, and Musical eXtended Reality has been published in significant engineering and artistic-practice journals and presented at different music technology conferences. He is also a producer, DJ, and performer of techno and ambient/IDM music under his 2 aliases namely Tomson Fauster and ShapeDaze, with which he performs in different electronic music events and festivals.
