AMA is the duo of visual artist Marie-Louise Andersson and sound artist Laure Boer. In their collaboration they work in the intersection between sound, sunlight, performance, soundsculptures and experimental music. Since 2023 they have been developing the soundpiece ECHO PHOS, which premiered in Brønshøj Vandtårn – a former water tower in Copenhagen (DK) in August 2024.

ECHO PHOS is based on the resonance between brass sound sculptures, space, movement and sunlight. The sculptures act as a mediation – both visually and sonically – between the sunlight and the exhibition space. They convert the sunlight into moving frequencies, at the same time, the sculptures produce their own resonance – bouncing back the acoustics of the space. Visually the brass sculptures mirror the performer, the audience and the surroundings into the surface of the metal. The audience is invited into a sensory space of sound and to the experience of reflection. Andersson and Boer emphasize reflection as a way to respond attentively to one‘s surroundings. Questioning how to collectively value listening to reflections in a contemporary world that to a great extent demands individual attitude and originality. Echo Phos facilitates a place where listening to reflections is a way to embrace one‘s surroundings as a collective organism – being an echo of light.

Marie-Louise Andersson (DK) is a visual artist working with sound, performance and sculpture. In her practice she investigates materials potential for sound – focusing on the tactility of sound. Andersson holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in Reykjavik and Konstfack in Stockholm, as well as a Bachelor in Textile from the School of Design Kolding (DK).

Andersson has performed in various venues for sound and visual art, among others at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art (Copenhagen), Kunsthal 44 Møn (DK), Transmediale in Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), Tectonics Music Festival in BBC City Halls (Glasgow), and at the National Gallery of Denmark. She has been a resident at the Danish Art Workshop, Sound Art Lab (DK), Inter Arts Center (Malmö) and Dieter Roth Academy (Sey∂isfjord, IS). Since 2021 she is represented in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Denmark and from 2024 at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde (DK). Currently she is working on three permanent site specific soundsculptures for Aalborg University (DK) in collaboration with the Danish building and Property Agency, In Situ, engineers and instrument builders.

Laure Boer (FR) is a sound artist and musician based in Berlin. Her music is inspired by noise music and traditional folk. Her performances are hypnotic improvisations involving traditional instruments, electroacoustic elements, light-sensitive sound objects, and sometimes a voice—singing or reciting in her native French—creating a vibrant universe that is both vulnerable and brutal. Boer composed the music for Zombie Mermaids – A Song for Future Waters, an opera by Swiss artist Magali Dougoud, performed together with the opera singer Myriam Jarmache. She’s also a member of the quartet Crutches, alongside Jan Frisch, Olga Reznichenko, and Valentin Schuster. Boer has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Tarek Atoui, Rabih Beaini, Miki Yui, Nicolas Becker, and Luise Volkmann. She has participated in residencies such as Nusasonic in Manila (PH), Projet Bloom (FR), and Sound Art Lab (DK). She has performed at Berlin Atonal, WSK Festival/PH, documenta fifteen, Kunsthaus Bregenz, and ARTE TV, and has toured Europe solo and in various band constellations. Her music is published by labels such as Kashual Plastik, Chinabot, and Otomatik Muziek, and she has been featured on The Wire’s Below the Radar, BBC Radio, and NPR.
