José Orozco Mora

At EMS 16 June – 6 July, EMS 2025

José Orozco Mora, originally from Chapala, Jalisco, currently based in Mexico City, works with sound across multiple disciplines, including sound installation and design, composition, production and post-production, as well as experimental lutherie.
His work focuses on exploring sound with a particular emphasis on its physical properties and its relationship with acoustics and psychoacoustics. To achieve this,
he experiments with alternative tunings, a careful selection of timbres, and the spectral content of both acoustic and electronic instruments, many of which he designs and builds himself. This in-depth sonic exploration has led him to work with various media and formats, including sound installations and multichannel works.

Orozco has been a recipient of the Jóvenes Creadores grant from PECDA Jalisco
(2021 and 2024) and the Jóvenes Creadores program from FONCA (2023).
His recordings have been published by renowned record labels such as Cassauna
/ Important Records (United States), Hol Records (Mexico), Constellation Tatsu
(United States), and Dablé Records (United States). His work has been presented in Mexico, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, New Zealand,
and Denmark.

Orozco holds a master’s degree in Music Technology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and is currently pursuing a doctorate at the same institution.
