Dorit Chrysler

Dorit Chrysler is a sound artist, composer, musicologist and Thereminist. Born in Austria, she lives in Berlin/NY and holds a Master’s degree in musicology from the University of Vienna. Dorit is the co-founder of the New York Theremin Society. Since her first encounter with the Theremin, she has mastered the instrument and applies its technology to varied art disciplines. Her work has been commissioned by MoMA (“Calder Plays Theremin”), Steirische Herbst, Knightsbridge Foundation, La DisneyHall, Siemens Foundation, Klangfestival. International concerts include performing with the San Francisco Symphony, at Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Museum, Coachella and Vienna Concerthouse. Past residencies include Pioneerworks, GaiteLyique (L’Ecole Theremine ) & LostandFoundLab.
Dorit has composed electronic music scores for film, TV (Tatort) and theater (Nestroy price). Her work has been shown at Fridman Gallery, KW Berlin, Schaumbad Graz. The Guggenheim, Bkln & Louisiana Museum hold works in their collection that include Dorit’s music. Having released numerous recordings, she has collaborated with CERN, Alva Noto, Trentemöller, Elliot Sharp, Laurie Spiegel, Marie Losier, Adult. and Cluster. Dorit has developed a curriculum in how to master the theremin which she has taught worldwide. She is the founder of “Dame Electric” a festival featuring female pioneers in Electronic Music.
