Antje Vowinckel

Antje Vowinckel is an internationally awarded sound artist, composer and music performer based in Berlin. She studied literature, music and sociology and completed a traineeship at German public radio, where she worked for three years as a director, author and dramaturge. She has lived in Berlin since 2000.
Her work comprises sound compositions, radio plays for numerous stations, independent productions for concerts, exhibitions, festivals and labels. In recent years she has also realized several installations in public space, video compositions, stage performances and a sound aquarium. Her composition Call me yesterdayhas been broadcast and presented in 18 countries.
In her work, Antje Vowinckel repeatedly addresses the relationship between music and language, for example in compositions with Dialect Karaoke and her method of Automatic Speaking or a composition for wind ensemble and call center voices. She uses everyday objects, instruments electronic sounds and her own voice in her compositions and performances. In addition, she occasionally works as an essayist, lecturer and juror, e.g. UDK, Berlin and HFG Karlsruhe, inm-Berlin. She has received numerous awards and stipends for her work, most recently the Prix Phonurgia Nova, France 2024 for her composition „opdoppling.recycling ritual“.
