Bekah Simms
At EMS August 31–September 8, 2026

The music of electroacoustic composer Bekah Simms possesses an enormous sonic palette: timbrally vibrant and ranging from superabundant electronic grotesquerie to lush microtonal waves of sound, their varied musical output has been heralded as “cacophonous, jarring, oppressive — and totally engrossing!” (CBC Music) and “visceral contemporary music that enfolds external inspirations with dazzling rigor and logic” (Peter Margasak).
Bekah’s music has been commissioned by and performed at major festivals across Europe and North America including Wien Modern, Time:Spans, Gaudeamus Newmuziekwrek, ACHT BRÜCKEN, Music on Main, and New Music Dublin. Their acousmatic music has been presented at two consecutive World New Music Days (Faroe Islands and Portugal) as well as the Sound/Image festival in London. Bekah has also been the recipient of over 40 awards, competitive selections, nominations, and prizes, including a 2024 Guggenheim Fellowship, the 2019 Barlow Prize, and the 2023 JUNO Award for Classical Composition of the Year.
Bekah is a Lecturer in Composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
