Mercedes Krapovickas
At EMS 11-30 August 2025

Mercedes Krapovickas is a bandoneonist, pianist, composer, and sound designer from
Argentina, with Lithuanian roots, now based in Finland. Her artistic journey centers on the bandoneon, through which she explores movement, sound, and expression.
Mercedes has performed extensively as a tango soloist across Europe and Argentina, and has worked in dance and circus productions as a composer, sound designer, and performer. Her research also explores the avant-garde movement, specifically the compositions created for the bandoneon in the 1960s, with a focus on pushing the boundaries of the instrument’s performance techniques.
Mercedes completed her Master’s degree in Sound in New Media at Aalto University and
is now pursuing a doctoral degree at the Music and Technology Department of the
Sibelius Academy. Her previous studies include electro-acoustic music composition at
Quilmes University in Argentina, Musicology at the University of Helsinki, and piano and
composition at the Sibelius Academy.
Support from the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture has made it possible for EMS to invite Mercedes for a residency.
