Sonia Killmann is a saxophone player, electronic musician, and audiovisual artist whose practice is deeply rooted in interdisciplinary work and collaborative processes. Sonia’s recent work explores the relationship between sound and environment, drawing inspiration from Pauline Oliveros’ concepts of collective listening and sonic meditation. They explore this through experimental jazz by merging the electronic sounds of modular synthesisers with acoustic instruments, such as the tenor saxophone. Since early 2022, the composer has been creating immersive experiences as an electronic and multimedia composer associated with Cryptic Glasgow.

Sonia Killmann has collaborated on an interdisciplinary level with poets, dancers and theatre makers. Sonia has presented works with BBC Dance Passion, Sonica Festival (UK), GAS Festival (SE) and Multiplica Festival (LUX). This work often stems from improvisational processes, resulting in live audiovisual shows, sound art, and scores. At Sonica 2024, the composer collaborated with Laura Mannelli on their immersive installation Umweltraum((a)), which was supported by Kultur | lx Arts Council Luxembourg and commissioned by Cryptic Glasgow.
