Malou van der Veld

At EMS September 14– October 4, 2026

Malou van der Veld is a sound artist based between London and Amsterdam.  She creates performances and installations that attempt to lay bare the interior of material and technological systems, through hacked instruments, feedback loops and site-specific interventions.

She is interested in the materiality and spatial qualities of sound, influenced by experimentation in the production of dub and industrial genres. Malou’s compositional practice sits within process music and spectralism.

Collaboration plays a central role in Malou’s practice, working with artists from different disciplines. She is one half of the electronic music duo Twee, combining instrumental performance with extensive digital sound processing.

During her residency she will continue her experimentation with the circuitry of the electric cello and DIY instrument building. She will research the EMS archive with a focus on how compositional styles were informed by new and DIY technologies.
