Mariam Gviniashvili
At EMS June 8–22 and August 10–24, 2026

Mariam Gviniashvili is a composer, sound artist, and visual artist working at the intersection of electroacoustic music, 3D sound, and instrumental composition. Her work explores the emotional and spatial dimensions of sound, often in close relation to visual media.
Originally from Georgia, Mariam began her artistic journey as a singer and pianist before studying composition in Tbilisi, Budapest, and Oslo. This diverse background informs projects such as Trails and Deconstruction, both awarded Honorary Mentions by Prix Ars Electronica (Austria), or Ruins, winner of the 40.4 Festival for Ambisonic Works (USA) and The Work of the Year (NKF).
Mariam has been commissioned by INA GRM, ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Notam, Henie Onstad Art Centre, MA/IN Festival, and the Hong Kong Visualisation Research Centre. Her work has been presented internationally at ZKM, Ars Electronica, EMPAC, Virginia Tech, BEASTFEaST, MA/IN, Ultima Festival, and has been broadcast on BBC, SWR and NRK radio.

Support from the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture has made it possible for EMS to invite Jana Winderen for a residency.
