Cat Hope

Cat Hope is a composer, flute and bass performer who creates music that is conceptually driven, in animated graphic scores formats for acoustic / electronic combinations as well as improvisations. Her music is characterised by aleatoric elements, drone, noise and glissandi as well as an ongoing fascination with low frequency sound that threads through all her creative work. She is currently working on a project that examines notation for electronic music at the Orpheus Institute, Belgium, with Juan Parra.
Hope is also an artistic director, having run the Decibel new music ensemble since 2009, and directed opera, concert and performance art experiences.
She is an artist scholar academic whose research interests include digital animated notation, networked music, gender and music, low frequency sound, Australian music, digital archiving as well as music composition and performance as artistic research.
She is currently Professor of Music at the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance at Monash University in Melbourne.
