From the Crow’s to the Cod’s Perspective
A weekend workshop with Jana Winderen exploring how to listen to and record sound from different perspectives and in different situations. Through practical exercises, we will explore environments and situations, using the participants’ own experiences and interests as a starting point.
The workshop is aimed at users at EMS who want to deepen their relationship with field recording as an artistic practice.
Friday 9 October, 18:00–20:00
– Jana Winderen presents her experiences from field recording trips and shares her working process with sound, from studio work through to installations and exhibitions, as well as performances and releases.
– Preparation and review of the equipment for the following day.
Saturday 10 October, 10:00–16:00
– Meeting at EMS, checking the weather forecast and preparing the equipment.
– Outdoor fieldwork in groups.
– Listening to and logging the recordings.
Sunday 11 October, 10:00–16:00
-Working with the recordings indoors.
-Participants present their experiences to one another, reflecting on listening, the recordings, and the work that follows.

About the workshop leader
Jana Winderen is an artist based in Norway with a background in mathematics, chemistry and fish ecology. Her practice pays particular attention to audio environments and to creatures which are hard for humans to access, both physically and aurally – deep under water, inside ice or in frequency ranges inaudible to the human ear. Her activities include site-specific and spatial audio installations and concerts, which have been exhibited and performed internationally in major institutions and public spaces. Application and invoice
The workshop is open to EMS users. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation by email that it has been received. Selection for the course is based on an overall assessment of each application in relation to the other applicants. Admission decisions will be sent by email after the selection process has been completed. If you are accepted, an invoice will be sent to you shortly thereafter.
Payment
The fee must be paid in advance to participate in the workshop.
The payment must be done by direct wire transfer to our bank in Sweden.
The payment must be made in Swedish currency SEK.
It’s not possible to pay by PayPal or similar.
Canceled or rescheduled workshop
Elektronmusikstudion reserves the right to cancel the workshop, change dates for lectures, teachers and fee. If this happens, you will be notified by email. Any paid workshop fees will be refunded if the workshop is canceled. No other compensation is paid.
