Ale Hop is the moniker of Alejandra Cardenas, a Berlin-based artist, researcher, and experimental instrumentalist. Her body of work includes live shows, record releases, and sound and multimedia pieces. She composes electronic music by blending unorthodox guitar techniques with electroacoustic experimentation, field recordings and fractured pop melodies.
The Wire Magazine described her last album, ‘The Life of Insects’ (2020), as “noisy and brave, but also finely textured and detailed enough to make active listening feel imaginatively vivid and participatory”.
Alejandra obtained her BA in Art, an MA in Sound Studies from Berlin University of the Arts, and did further postgraduate studies in History and Theory of Science and Technology at the Technical University of Berlin. She researches sound, art, and technology, edits the academic publication “Border-Listening/Escucha-Liminal” on listening and sound and is currently co-curator of the festival Radical Sounds Latin America.
