JASSS (S. Jiménez Alvarez) is a sound artist and producer born and raised on the northen coast of Spain.

jimenez

Her parents were very passionate about jazz, african and south american rhythms, one of the first and strongest influences in her life. Her stubborn focus on the nature and sociologic aspects of sound and music, from an early age, provided the right conditions for opening to new and unknown landscapes in art and sound.

As she grew up, she found herself in disagreement with the general cultural and social landscapes of her surroundings, this led her to leave Spain and to seek out new knoweldege and experiences. Feeling like a constant outsider, mentally unstable, and unable to focus her attention, she started making a theme out of the distractions, alowing her to finally deliver, to create.

During her early youth she took part of in some punk and hardcore projects and developed an interest for industrial, dub and experimental music. In 2010, after moving to the Netherlands, she started editing field recordings and investigating electronic music, sound creation and editing. After moving to Berlin, a year later, she began working on scores for several experimental films. In 2015, she made her first appearances, as a DJ, playing records, recording mixes for radio shows as well as other platforms, with a quite distinctive eccelectism, that afterwards would become her signature style.

After a few years of studio work and self training, her first 12 inche, Caja Negra ep, was released on the American label Anunnaki Cartel. In the same year, her second record, Mother, was released on the italian label Mannequin Records, as the first of 2 vinyls for the series Death of the Machines.

Much more focused on the experimentation with sound and spaces, she currently works in several projects, including electroacoustic pieces, live and Audio Visual performances.

Her first solo album, Weightless, will be released in 2017 on the Swedish label iDEAL Recordings.

The residency is kindly supportd by the Embassy of Spain in Stockholm.
