Thrainn Hjalmarsson is a composer frequently working with a sonic landscape composed of miniatured sounds. Hjálmarsson's music has been described as “introvert, a bit ambient, beautifully made, [and] delicate.” along with being “Fascinating and enchanting!”.

Since 2011 Hjálmarsson has been a vibrant act in the Icelandic music scene, running the concert series Phonemes (ísl. Hljóðön) at Hafnarborg – Centre for culture and fine arts, dedicated to contemporary music, collaborating with visual artists and lecturing on experimental acoustics at The Iceland Academy of the Arts.
